Work Life balance and life care means maintaining a healthy life balance and is not only essential for happiness and well-being; it can also be a tremendous boost to your productivity, relationships and career or business.scales-36417__180

A well-balanced person has a  greater ability to focus on attaining their goals, having more energy and taking productive actions.

Balance in life is not always easy to achieve.  How balanced do you think your life is?.  How balanced is your work life?

Sometimes we can be really happy in one area of our life and yet be unhappy in another area. There are times we are not aware there is unbalance in our lives.

For example: a client of mine is amazingly happy with her relationship with her husband, they have a great life together and a wonderful understanding of each other.  However, my client is stressed about her financial situation and her career.  She made a career move and has been focusing on increasing her income through being self-employed. She was speaking with her husband one evening and she mentioned that they had not been intimate for a week or so.   He replied ‘Honey you have been very busy with your business and have not had time for us recently, I totally understand and when you are less focused on your business we will get back to us.

Great understanding husband and not too many of them about 🙂 Lucky girl…

This is an example of being out of balance, focusing only on one part of your life 100% and not focusing on all of your parts equally. Being aware of what you are doing is the first sign for you to start making adjustments.

How do you do this you might ask?

We have several areas in our life which we have to juggle at any given time

  • WeightChange how to you cope with it.
  • Religion/Spirituality
  • Finance
  • Family
  • Health & Wellness
  • Relationships
  • Career

This is not the complete list but you get the idea.  Balancing all of these and more can cause stress and anxiety in many of us. The stress alone can pay a toll on our health.  One way I always suggest for these emotions is the constant use of Emotional Freedom Techniques.

Here are a 7 tips that will help you:

    • Rate out of 10 how happy/content/pleased you are with each area in your life, and notice which ones have the lowest scores.
    • Spend more time on the lower scoring parts until you get them to the level you are content with.
    • Going forward spend equal amounts of time in all areas in your life.
    • Put time limitations to make sure you spend the time daily in each area. (set a timer to keep you on track)
    • Be conscious of your weakness’
    • Always make time for meditation or reflection or journal, clear your head.
    • Consider purging often.

Being in balance in all areas of your life will give you peace and happiness, you will also notice new things coming into your life are easier to handle and will slot easily into your current way of life.

It is important to keep a check on yourself so you keep your life in balance.

Start today do one thing to change your strategy and start your journey. Believe and you will succeed.  Set your goals and make sure they are also realistic.

    Hello Helen – I really like the article on the topic you choose, I’m a software professional where you know we used to have a heavy mental stress at work which on some bad days it is worse, even after returning to home it is difficult to spend some valuable time with the family. As you mentioned I need to do a work life balance, I used to do yoga for some time but again I missed in the recent days due to work. But after reading the article I’m gonna make proper time for everything which are valuable in my life. I really thank you from my heart for opening this to us. Have a great week and keep well.

    This is amazing advice! I really like the steps and am going to start rating the areas of my life to see where I need to focus. There are definitely some steps, such as the meditation step, that I do not make time for, ever. Do you have an article that goes more in depth with these 7 steps?

    Your website was spot on the button. We all need more balance in our lives, and balance in all areas of our lives, a few of which you pointed out. I am a semi retired teacher and once set my class a task which was based around the question, “Tell us an important thing which an elderly person has taught you.” A little boy said that his grandfather had taught him to ride a bicycle. And there we have “balance”, right there. The old man taught him to balance, something he would use on the sportsfields – a good sportsman has to be balanced, not? The grandfather gave him the physical lessons (bicycle) and then expanded balance into other areas of the young boys life as he grew older.
    Your website places the focus on this important aspect of our lives in a professional, powerful way. Well done, Helen.

    Rating out of 10 each area of your life is a great idea. I just did that exercise and now I know which areas I need to focus on more. Thank you for writing this article and sharing your knowledge because I really think its going to help me with keeping my work life balance.

    Balance work and life is so important for us yet it is the parts that cost us the most stress. Great 7 tips on how to balance work and life, and I am amazed that how understanding your client’s husband is. It taught us the importance of making time with our family even during our busiest time.

    Thanks for the great advice. Finding balance is not always easy. Its like a juggler having to keep all the balls in the air. One of the balls always needs more attention at one time, but the trick is not to let the other balls out of sight!

    Balance in life is of vital importance although it is sometimes hard to achieve it. When a couple can understand each other it is an awesome thing, it makes everyone’s life easier. Sometimes we have to compromise and forget about boundaries to make life more pleasant for all.

    It kind of sounded like you were speaking about me lol. I put so much energy in my work and children that I didn’t focus on my husband. Although I show him affection on a daily basis we kind of lost a small connection for a week. I tried shifting my focus again and realized I ignored my blog. I am going to take your advice.     Great advice! So important to balance everything in your life. When people neglect their family to spend more time at work to get that promotion they give up more than they think. Maybe their kids grow up and they miss out on their childhood. Maybe a loved one passes away and then they regret not spending the time with them. When we poor our efforts into one thing its a good reminder that it tips the scales. Other things fall off balance.

    I recently read THE HAPPINESS ADVANTAGE by Shawn Anchor and he makes the case that we aren’t happy because we aren’t training ourselves to be happy. He advises practicing gratefulness with a journal, logging three to five things twice a day that we are grateful for. We “train” ourselves to then be grateful and happy and it has a huge impact on our lives! When I read this post, it made me think of how that simple act could energize all of the great tips you’ve listed here!

    So good to see ‘work/life’ balance information highlighted. Went to a job interview recently and was told not to suggest one of my goals is to ‘achieve a work life balance’ because that’s what everyone says now. “Well hello!”, I think there’s a message to our culture right there.
