What is Emotional Freedom Techniques – EFT Does it work?

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) (Tapping)

What are the benefits of Emotional Freedom Techniques, commonly known as EFT –   what can it do for you, does it work, why use it?

All very good questions you might ask.Tapping for Emotional Issues

I have been using EFT on myself, my family and clients for around 18 years, the results always amaze me.  When I first heard of EFT I was skeptical at how it worked so quickly and was curious about it have a lasting effect.  Was it really that good?

Here is what I found out.

I started using and sharing EFT decades ago and saw such amazing results it inspired me to write books about it, give talks about and therefore I am a great fan of this Meridian Energy Process.

So what is it and how do you use it to benefit you and your family or perhaps your clients?

The process has been around since 5000bc an ancient Chinese Art and a modern day psychology, so this is not New Age, it has been around for thousands of years.Tried and tested and proven to be very very effective.  This premise is based on all unresolved emotional issues get trapped in your meridian system.

This premise is based that all unresolved emotional issues get trapped in your meridian system. This in turn, causes pain and dis-ease in our organs and body. When using  EFT, is also described as Acupuncture without the needles, these blockages get released. Tapping utilizes the body’s energy meridian points by stimulating them with your fingertips – literally tapping into your body’s own energy and healing powerTapping for Emotional Eating

Tapping can help people overcome many issues. From pain relief, to healing childhood traumas, to clearing limiting financial beliefs, to weight loss, body image and food cravings, to fears and phobias, Tapping is proving to be a powerful, well-researched and easy to learn and apply this amazing technique.

What are the benefits of Emotional Freedom Techniques,

You can use EFT on anybody any age from new born to hospice.   You can even use it on your pets.

When my daughter was giving birth I used EFT and Hypnosis through the labor pains and she delivered her 9lb baby with no pain killers at all.  EFT is so easy to teach and so easy to get results. There is not a negative emotion you cannot use this on.  There are however aspects

EFT is so easy to teach and so easy to get results. There is not a negative emotion you cannot use this on.  There are however aspects

There are however different aspects to emotions and although you may have anger issues or grief or depression, there are many emotional memories attached to them.

Therefore you can clear your anger towards your mother for mis-treating you but you may still harbor anger against the job you got fired from.  You would tap on each of them separately so as to clear your anger for both memories.

Do not worry you will not clear your memories you will just eliminate the negative emotion attached to that memory.
> Remember you can only have an emotion today, this very moment.

How do you use eft?

EFT is also called Tapping and you use your finger tips to tap on the meridian points around your face, collarbone and top of head.   You focus on the negative emotion while you tap on the points.   An affirmation is said while tapping on the Karate Point to help release the negative emotion.Using EFT to clear negative emotions

I personally have helped people overcome phobias, panic attacks, fears, emotional eating and a lot more using  EFT and I still get amazed at the results and how quickly it all happens.  I love teaching kids to use it to help them with their test anxiety and social skills.   You can read some feedback from my clients here

When do you use EFT?

Every day and as often as needed.

There are no side effects to this protocol and you can only benefit from it.   Tap on any and all emotions.  One thing I always have my clients do is to write down 10 things that cause them to have a high negative emotional response.

For example   think of a time when something made you really angry, the event could be a long time ago or recently but you still get angry today thinking about it.   Therefore there is an unresolved emotional charge there, you tap on it until you can recall the memory back again and not feel that anger.

You cannot change the situation you can only change your emotional response to it.

Tapping releases blockages

Therefore we all have emotional responses to events every single day and they build up over time then we get to a point where we explode over something simple, this is because we are adding all the other baggage to this event.

Tap often, tap every day and tap on everything.

Over the years I have helped many of my clients manage their lifestyle with a health and wellness in mind.  Private, group and skype sessions are available all over the world.

It would be my pleasure to have you as one of my clients.

I’ve used EFT effectively from time to time. Thanks for the information about it you present here. I’m now inspired to follow your directive of
“Tap often, tap every day and tap on everything.”
I love the videos, very helpful. Thanks for your excellent information!

I’m a little sceptical of…pretty much everything, but this seems harmless. I’m wondering though, if this is supposed to work on releasing negative emotions, is it likely to make a person cry during the process? If I had a big problem, say an ongoing, chronic injury, would it be best to get tapped by a professional, or would doing it on my own be ok?

    • helenvella

It works totally on releasing negative emotions and yes some people do cry as part of their release. Getting tapped by a professional is a great way to go and then you learn the technique first hand and can the do it for yourself moving forward. I would love the opportunity to be able to explore this further with you. Please contact me to discuss.

The videos are really helpful. I think we can often overlook simple treatment methods but there is a lot of evidence that EFT can make a difference. Its easy to learn too.

Wow this is truly interesting! I was watching a show on tv once, can’t remember exactly which one- anyway someone on this show was doing this is a way to calm a child with Autism who was in an uproar and you could literally see the child calming and becoming more relaxed through the process. I didn’t know at the time what the process was and had never looked more into it until now. I am always looking for ways that I can calm anxiety and stress without going to the doctor and filling myself with medication that is full of side effects. I love that you can have someone do this for you, but ultimately you can do it yourself! Thank you for sharing this technique, it’s benefits, and even your own experiences with using it! I have bookmarked this site and I am going to give this a try for sure!

EFT is very good for calming people down and especially when they are having a panic attack or high-stress levels. Also it works very quickly. Thank you so much for your comments and please let me know the results you experience.

A very interesting wellness technique explained in this article but I really wonder how well it works? Is it the tapping of those acupuncture points that produces the results or the regular affirmations over a period of time similar to self hypnosis that does the trick? I have visited an acupuncturist in the past and good outcomes are achieved by having needles inserted in the acupuncture points and relaxing during each session.

It’s the first time I hear about EFT and I’m curious about how it’s done. I tried self-hypnosis and Yoga, Qi Gong which really help me keep a relaxed mind through the day. It reminds me a bit of the last one I mentioned only it’s more like rubbing than tapping. I would love to see how it’s done. Do you have any video suggestions?

I have come across articles on EFT before and it seems to be a mix of psychology with acupressure. I have heard that it can be applied to virtually anything. Seems to good to be true. Is this something that you can do yourself?
Thanks for sharing this, it was very interesting.

Yes that is the idea to be empowered to do it yourself. If you look at my book tab you will see they teach you how. Thanks for your comments.

Thanks for the great information on the Emotional Freedom Technique. I have recently become familiar with EMT and think it can be helpful to everyone. My wife has started tapping and she is seeing results in her life. I am excited to start this practice in my life as well. It makes so much sense on why a lot of us get stuck and how we can become unstuck. All the best!

I have heard about EFT a lot. I don’t know why despite of being such a big fan of personal development I have tried and used a plethora of techniques, but never touched EFT. I take your blog as a signal for me and I think your knowledge can definitely help me with it. I am really very much impressed by knowing how you helped your daughter to give birth to a baby weighing 9lbs without painkillers, that’s miraculous.

Hi. Thanks. I’d heard of this before but never looked into it Along with a lot of other alternative treatment people think it’s a load of Mumbo Jumbo. Sorry, I didn’t like the video you posted to look at, although it covered the basics. But you’ve done that here on your site. I much preferred your own video that came up second. You are doing something very similar to hypnotherapy with the affirmations, but in a fully “awake” state (I use that term “awake” in a tongue in cheek way)as in hypnosis, and you seem to know about this as well, you do a similar thing in a relaxed, subconscious state – without the tapping.

My grandmother really believed in this. Whenever I had the sniffles or a headache she would often rub the bottom of my feet and would ask me if it helped. I’m not sure if it helped honestly but it did feel good so I just told her it was working. I will say I may have felt a little better but that might be because of the massage and not the actual technique it self – I’m not sure.

That’s a wonderful post. I am myself suffering from anxiety, depression and fear of being a loser.
Your post gave me a tip to get relieved of them. Hope it works 🙂

I’ve heard of EFT before but really didn’t read into it. Now I know that it’s tapping on meridian point. But meridian point is hard to pin point for the untrained person. Are we able to practice the method by our own? How do we know if we are tapping on the right meridian point? Does it need to be very accurate for the method to work?

Thank you Rachel, I love to hear that kids do it too. Keep tapping 🙂

What a great article. I have been tapping for a few years and it absolutely works to calm my anxiety. It’s so funny because my children (9 and 6 years old) have seen me do this on a daily basis and I have caught them doing it on them themselves as well….I think it’s so helpful!

Oh very interesting, very powerful. Can you also help with procrastination and problems to finnish and stay focused on long term project? Any time I get too excited about one idea but week later I have a new one and stop focusing on previous one. Can EFT help with it?
