NLP for Coaching – NLP Sales Training – NLP Personal Use

What is NLP used for and what does it mean?

There is a great reason I use NLP for coaching every day in my practice, it is amazingly effective and once used has long lasting meaningful life changing habits.

NLP stands for Neuro-Linguistic Programming.  NLP helps you learn to use your brain by using language smartly to unlearn negative patterns and replace them with positive patterns for a better life. There are many different explanations and I especially like explaining that NLP helps you retrain your brain to become more positive and resourceful.

NLP was developed by Dr Richard Bandler and Dr John Grinder back in the 1970’s.  They researched the masters of psychotherapy like Virginia Satir (founder of Family Therapy) and Milton Erickson (founder Hypnotherapy, to find what made them so great.

What did they find out?

They found a way to map successful human behavior in such a manner that they were able to help the population by producing many books and run many courses to teach others how to use it. Today NLP is used not only in therapy but also in sales, communications, and coaching. I added it to my practice and enjoy teaching the techniques to my clients.
What does NLP do
When I did my training and studying, some with Dr Richard Bandler, I wanted to be able to incorporate NLP techniques into my coaching and therapy practice.  The results my clients are achieving in business and social life are remarkable.

What you achieve

  • make good decisions
  • achieve your goals
  • communicate well with yourself and others
  • feel good no matter what

You would think that most of the above tasks were performed consciously, but neuroscientific research shows that our unconscious mind is better at making decisions than the conscious mind.  Emotions are mostly regulated unconsciously triggered by current events. How do you use NLPOur emotions are not rational and therefore we can be surprised by them, as sometimes we have no idea the reason for that particular emotion coming up at that time.

NLP is used to clear phobias, fears, and limiting beliefs, all of which stop us from feeling good and living the life you really want for yourself.

NLP since the 70’s has been helping people in all walks of life overcoming fears and phobia and this video shows Dr.Richard Bandler helping Michael Strahan overcome his fear of snakes.

This is how quickly and easily NLP techniques work.

Hard to believe but it really does work this fast. This is one of the reasons I love it.

When going to a health practitioner who is a qualified NLP Practitioner and uses these types of techniques to empower clients means you cut out the need for years and years of therapy to talk about the fear!!!

Nothing against talk therapy, giving a client a tool to empower them to be able to deal with their emotional challenges on a daily basis goes a long way to becoming a more independent and healthier person.

Having alternatives to choose from for your health and wellness gives you the opportunity to make informed objective choices. There are many choices and NLP is just one of them, I also use extensively Emotional Freedom Techniques.

Please share this with others and I would really like your comments on your experiences with NLP.

I’ve always been curious about NLP. Thank you for breaking it down. Although I don’t see myself trying to add it to my business at least I know someone I can refer my clients to. 🙂

I enjoyed your post. The NLP technique is the way to go. It is quick and to the point which means it could eliminate long therapy sessions which are also expensive.

NLP Neuro-Linguistic programming sounds like the real deal. After reading through your article I did not only know what that means but also understand that your know what you are talking about after citing how you used it in your practice and how your patients were responding, it’s amazing.

I would give a second thought to get this book or the training whichever one I can afford it worth because I am into online coaching and I think I will be needing that skill. Thank you for this piece of information.

Excellent thank you so much for your comment. Yes you can do online through skype sessions or phone sessions. If I can be of any help to you please let me know.

I really like the video to how other people’s fear CAN be cured. My question is how does this program compare to other programs out there that are competition to this product?

    • helenvella

NLP is a modality used to help remove negative and improve positive. All modalities are good and the comparison is how long it lasts. NLP lasts for ever. Not sure what ‘program’ you mean.

I have never heard NLP, and I always have phobias of certain animals and things. Now I am going to explore the concept more and put it to overcome my fear. Thanks for the interesting post.

    • helenvella

You are welcome. NLP is among one of the best tools I use with my clients. There are techniques you can use and teach yourself, I would also recommend a professional helping you if you have a phobia though.

I have heard this term a few times now and have been told that I am already following some of the techniques with my writings at my website. I figured if I was already doing some of it, that I should look more into it to see what it is all about.

I am really intrigued with anything that can help people overcome fears like this and am working towards providing such services for people. I will certainly be taking a more in depth look at this now and add this book to my reading list.

Thank you for sharing this info and where to find out more about it.

    • helenvella

You are very welcome, yes some of us use NLP naturally but once you really know how to use it the results can be truly amazing for many people.

Very interesting, Helen. I’ve been intrigued by NLP for some time and heard of it being incorporated by Tony Robbins and Mike Lipkin, to name a few. Powerful stuff, and I’d definitely like to add this to my ‘kit’. I’m looking forward to more posts from you. Cheers!

    • helenvella

Thank you – yes some of the greats if not all of them use NLP, also some of the Security and Law Enforcement use NLP also. Great tool.

Sounds amazing. I’ve heard of NLP but have not explored what it really is. Is there a certification for NLP experts? What’s the process to become one?

    • helenvella

There are certifications and I would suggest you research, I only go with really experienced trainers.let me know if I can help any further. I was trained many years ago in NLP and other modalities and use it all the time with my clients.

What an eye opener. I have a fear of heights that I told myself that I would love to overcome this year. I’m going to be reading this book, to see how I can make that a reality this year.

    • helenvella

Well good luck to you and if you need any help let me know as I do this with my clients all the time, over the phone, skype and in person. NLP is an amazing tool.

I’ve never heard of NLP, but is it similar to what Tony Robbin’s uses in his seminars? I’ve listened to his podcast and walked through some mental/meditative exercises that sound a little similar to this.

    • helenvella

It is exactly what he does, NLP is an amazing module. Thanks for your comments.

Loved your article. The snake video really hit home. Not sure a pet snake and a snake in the wild would get the same reaction however. 😉
    Thanks for sharing.

    • helenvella

Thank you so much. Yes snakes are scary but NLP is such a great tool it does get rid of phobias and fears just like in the video. 🙂
