What is NLP used for and what does it mean?
There is a great reason I use NLP for coaching every day in my practice, it is amazingly effective and once used has long lasting meaningful life changing habits.
NLP stands for Neuro-Linguistic Programming. NLP helps you learn to use your brain by using language smartly to unlearn negative patterns and replace them with positive patterns for a better life. NLP was developed by Dr Richard Bandler and Dr John Grinder back in the 1970’s. They researched the masters of psychotherapy like Virginia Satir (founder of Family Therapy) and Milton Erickson (founder Hypnotherapy, to find what made them so great.
What did they find out?
They found a way to map successful human behavior in such a manner that they were able to help the population by producing many books and run many courses to teach others how to use it. Today NLP is used not only in therapy but also in sales, communications, and coaching. I added it to my practice and enjoy teaching the techniques to my clients.
When I did my training and studying, some with Dr Richard Bandler, I wanted to be able to incorporate NLP techniques into my coaching and therapy practice. The results my clients are achieving in business and social life are remarkable.
What you achieve
- make good decisions
- achieve your goals
- communicate well with yourself and others
- feel good no matter what
You would think that most of the above tasks were performed consciously, but neuroscientific research shows that our unconscious mind is better at making decisions than the conscious mind. Emotions are mostly regulated unconsciously triggered by current events. Our emotions are not rational and therefore we can be surprised by them, as sometimes we have no idea the reason for that particular emotion coming up at that time.
NLP is used to clear phobias, fears, and limiting beliefs, all of which stop us from feeling good and living the life you really want for yourself.
NLP since the 70’s has been helping people in all walks of life overcoming fears and phobia and this video shows Dr.Richard Bandler helping Michael Strahan overcome his fear of snakes.
This is how quickly and easily NLP techniques work.
Hard to believe but it really does work this fast. This is one of the reasons I love it.
When going to a health practitioner who is a qualified NLP Practitioner and uses these types of techniques to empower clients means you cut out the need for years and years of therapy to talk about the fear!!!
Nothing against talk therapy, giving a client a tool to empower them to be able to deal with their emotional challenges on a daily basis goes a long way to becoming a more independent and healthier person.
Having alternatives to choose from for your health and wellness gives you the opportunity to make informed objective choices. There are many choices and NLP is just one of them, I also use extensively Emotional Freedom Techniques.
Please share this with others and I would really like your comments on your experiences with NLP.
