Stress and Anxiety are a big part of our lives these days. Managing Anxiety and Stress is not something we should be doing, we should be eliminating stress and anxiety from our lives.

There is so much going on in the world to-day and a person cannot help but be stressed, worried or anxious. Our forefathers only had to worry about where to get the food for the family and fight off animal life.  To-day stress and anxiety are the new fight or flight responses and causing many diseases to occur in our bodies. Controlling or managing our panic, anxiety, stress and worry is a struggle for many, but there are techniques and products (not medication) you can use on a daily basis to keep your stress levels in check.   I have seen over the years with my clients how the daily standard stress levels are increasing.

20 years ago when I would ask my clients where they thought their stress level sat on a daily basis the number was always a 2 or a 3, today when I ask the same question the answers are now 6 – 8.   This is a very high level for daily life and this leads to ‘losing’ it that much quicker.

People get angrier quicker and this applies to young children as well as adults.  Children are more stressed today than ever. The homework, peer pressure, and technology all play a part in a child’s stress.   Unfortunately, this stress, worry, anxiety leads to a larger number of child suicides and drug addiction.

There are about three methods to cope with stress: the alarm phase, the resistance phase, and also stress fatigue.

In the alarm phase, heart rate, blood pressure level, with body energy requires improvement whereas the immune system momentarily weakens. In the resistance phase, the entire body begins adapting while wearing down the stress hormones. It will require a bit of time, which is the reason we have a tendency to feel stressed despite the fact that the stressor has stopped being present. Finally, in stress fatigue, the stressor will remain while body energy levels drop below standard. During this period, the whole body will no longer properly cope with stress, which unfortunately is when you have a greater risk of migraines, gaining of weight, cardiovascular disease, and also immune system problems.

Even though you believe that you are well, it is possible to be quite stressed out. You most likely are under stress should there be the following signs and symptoms:

  • Sleep deprivation
  • Moist and sweaty palms
  • Diminished pleasure with projects
  • Becoming easily irritated
  • Prolonged sensation of desperation
  • Cold feet and palms
  • Backaches, headaches, stomach aches, and various other physical discomforts.

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)

What are the benefits of Emotional Freedom Techniques, known as EFT –  so what can it do for you, does it work, why use it?  All very good questions you might ask.

I have been using EFT on myself, my family and clients for around 18 years, the results always amaze me.  When I first heard of EFT I was skeptical at how it worked so quickly and would it have a lasting affect.  Was it really that good?

Since I started using and sharing EFT I have written books about it, given talks about and am a great fan of this Meridian Energy Process.  So what is it and how do you use it to benefit you and your family?

The process has been around since 5000bc an ancient Chinese Art so this is not New Age, it has been around for thousands of years.Tried and tested and proven to be very very effective.  This premise is based on all unresolved emotional issues get trapped in your meridian system. This in turn causes pain and dis-ease in our organs and body.  EFT is also described as Acupuncture without the needles.

I had asked Helen if I could “tap” on my Chihuahua’s nervous habit. She told me how and I did. I didn’t notice anything different after the first time. However, 20 minutes later I touched him and he felt softer than he had in months.

    I’ve had my share of stress in my life ( who hasn’t right? ) I have also experienced several anxiety panic attacks as a result. They’re not fun… since I have trained myself and learned how to control them because now I know when and why they happened to me. It’s sad really that we must go through such ordeals. But that’s how our bodies deal with what goes on with us on the inside.

    Hi Helen, stress is everywhere and sometimes unavoidable. I for one can definitely testify to that. My life was pretty good about 8 years ago. Young and very successful, but since then life took me down a very difficult path. Long story short, you never know what life has in story for you. The stress have been unbearable at times, but I try to stay focus and do other things that occupy my thoughts. Cheers!!!

      Hopefully you are using some holistic tools to overcome your stress. I understand how life can give you a curveball I have had a few in my day. Stress is here to stay but learning how to deal with it on a day to day basis will reduce your overall stress. Stay focused and blessed.

    Since I started doing a morning meditation and visualization routine, I’ve noticed that my anxiety and stress levels have dropped significantly. Clearing out my mind seems to help immensely. But I have noticed that my minor depression episodes still seem to crop up here and there. Do you have any suggestions for that? Thanks.

    I think you’re right, Helen. It’s more difficult to stay calm and balanced today than it was earlier. We have so many distractions also like the phone, the internet, facebook, twitter. We need to be updated and to know what’s going on. That can be stressful. And many of us want to live a perfect life which is not doable.

    So I can feel why many of us feel so much stress today.

    I started mindful meditation when I was 17. Being young, I didn’t really grasp what it’s all about. I made some progress, but I was thinking too much instead of just being aware. I stopped eventually and my concentration and focus deteriorate(I’ve actually been making progress without realizing).

    I’ve started back mindfulness practice recently(roughly a year ago), as there are just too many things going on in my life. It really helps. I would recommend practicing meditation before going to sleep and right after you woke up. It’s really a good way to start and end the day.

    I can certainly relate to the stress part because I remember reaching a point in my job where it was making me feel ill but as soon as I quit, I felt a heck of a lot better within myself for it. 🙂

    Hi Helen, what you write is so true, and it seems as if stress and mental health issues are just becoming a norm in everybody’s lives. In my early 20’s I studied as a Relaxation Therapist, became a Reiki Master, learnt many other alternative therapies including meditation, and it only seems to be in the past 5yrs or so (in my 40’s now) that my own anxiety and BPD have had me on the floor. Whenever I feel myself heading in the downward spiral I call on everything I have learnt in the past, and I know it is some or all of these techniques that have helped/saved me from crashing.
    I look forward to following your site and learn other techniques that may be of use too.

    Stress is so destructive to our bodies and finding ways to reduce it any way possible is important. I believe in natural approaches such as you show, such as, aromatherapy and yoga. I look forward to reading more of your articles in the coming months. Congratulations on your wedding. I live in a 55+ community and have seen wonderful couples getting married even in their 80’s and its beautiful to see that you can find that special person if it is meant to be!

    You are so right about the increase of stress these days. My stress was over the top until I finally, after 2years, listened to my doctor and quit my extremely stressful job. He had me on many medications just to cope. Of course then there were the side effects.
