Proverbs 23:7
We all have so many dreams, aspirations, and goals but the only bridge between us and our goals is the belief we have in ourselves.
It is normal we doubt our skills, capabilities, talents or gifts now and again but what matters is how we react to this doubt.
Some people choose to sit down and wallow in self-pity ( I know I have from time to time) and by the time they are done with their reverie, ample time which should have been invested in their goals has been lost in thought.
On the other hand, if we choose to see life differently and choose to take action thereby improving our general outlook on life and people’s perception of us. When we do this, we grow in self-belief.
When we believe in our capabilities, talents, and skills, we develop a new outlook on life and it causes us to understand that for every action there is an equal reaction. Hence, if we take positive steps in our life, we are certain to reap positive results and vice versa.
Taking this step and effecting the changes is a methodical process, and there are steps to it.
- The first step in gaining self-confidence is by examining ourselves and noting down our strengths and weaknesses.
- The next step is to identify definite actions that will help us overcome fear, and one of the biggest fears most people have is the fear of trying out new things, one of the main obstacles to success.
So much talk about self-confidence….. Why is it important?
Well, self-confidence is the major difference between successful and unsuccessful individuals, as this confidence gives us the ability to overcome every form of uncertainty, doubt or vulnerability. When we have self-confidence, there’s a boost in our self-esteem, and consequently, we have more out-of-the-box thoughts, a prerequisite in making outstanding leaps to success.
A more confident ‘you’ will be willing to test new waters, experiment with new ideas and take bold steps without the fear of the unknown.
If you have cultivated a culture of self-belief, you are on your way to making progress. Self-belief will help you weather every storm.
If the belief you have in yourself is strong, no one can stop you from achieving your goals.
Finally, growing in self-confidence is never an easy task, and in the course of this journey, you will encounter people or events which will test your self-esteem.
Now there are two ways to handle this; you can choose to confront or walk away.
It can be tricky deciding on which to do but one way to look at this by focusing on the end- will confronting this challenge or walking away from it take me further or father from my goal?
When you have an answer to this question, you know which decision you will make.
