How to be Grateful in Life and How to teach your kids to be grateful

With life passing us by so quickly and so much going on every day how many of you take the time to be grateful in life, just stop and take a moment and notice what you have in your life to be grateful for.  Also those of you with kids, how dGratitude opens the heart.o you teach your kids to be grateful?

When my daughter was younger I would take her to the children’s hospital or a shelter for single moms and we would give toys and clothes that we no longer wanted.  We would also go and buy food and take it there.  Sometimes we would just visit and take some books and read to them.I would let my daughter speak to the kids and give them what she had brought for them herself.  This I felt taught her to be grateful for what she had and to respect what she had no matter what it was.  She, in turn, takes her daughters to kids shelters and they make bagged lunch’s for the kids and also they give all their clothes and toys to these kids when they are done with them.  They too know how to be grateful for what they have and do not disrespect what they do have.

Was it easy to think of 3 things?  Did you have to really think about it or did it just come to you instantly, for some of you I can imagine you thought of more than 3Grateful, joyful and thankful things I am sure.

Right now I am grateful for my husband, my daughter, and grandchildren who are all healthy and happy.  I am also grateful I work at home and can be here writing this right now.  This moment I am most grateful for the music I am listening to which is making me feel very creative, relaxed and grateful.  The music inspired me to write this post.

gratitude you are not in a state of fear, worry or stress.  Therefore your outlook, blood pressure and general well-being are being improved by constantly being grateful.

  2. Hey I really enjoyed reading this, I’ve got a young man living with me now that has not always had an easy life. I know he is grateful for what he has, but I think some of your suggestions would be beneficial to him, somethings we can do together and share. I remember a saying I read as a child “when we share we make the most of what we have”

  3. Honestly, I am a very grateful person for everything God has endowed upon me, but I cannot stop complaining. I just complain about frivolous things and let it go.. does that mean you’re not grateful? I express my thoughts then don’t even remember it the next minute. Some people can never complain, but those people may never give thanks or feel the sense of gratitude. Does being meek portray gratitude?

    • If you recognise you are complaining then you can control it and re-look at the what you are complaining about. Being meek does not portray gratitude only being grateful portrays gratitude.

  4. I was always grateful for everything I have, from the smallest things up to the difficult situations that I have surpassed. I always thank God in every little way because I really know exactly how it feels to have nothing. This post was so great and I will always keep in mind the tips to stay grateful especially for me to be less judgemental, thinking bigger than myself and fewer complaints.

    • Never easy to know what to do with kids there are so many factors that have to be considered. As parents we can only do the best we can with the tools we have at the time.

  5. I am grateful for my health and that of my family. I’m grateful that we have more than enough to be happy and fulfilled. I’m grateful that I was able to stay home with my kids and pursue my own dreams of running a business. Thanks for the opportunity to take a brief moment out of my day and share that.   6. I love this. My oldest just turned 3, and we are really looking forward to taking him to the food pantry with us to volunteer. My parents started volunteering with me at a very young age, and I appreciated it so much. Thank you so much for sharing 🙂

    • I love it, I think it is so important to teach our kids the importance of noticing others less fortunate and not scorning them but understanding and helping them.

  8. I love this! I always try to be grateful–at the moment, I am grateful for health. I teach my kids to be grateful as well. I explain that the things they have don’t just come from the skies.

    • Exactly most children are fortunate enough to get everything they desire and they sometimes are not taught how hard the people giving it to them work and sacrifice so they can have what they want.

  9. I certainly need to stop and think more often about how grateful I am. I am very lucky compared to some, and reminding myself of that really helps bring an inner peace.

    • It certainly does I think we get so wrapped up in what is going on and realizing what we have. It does bring peace and health to be grateful

  10. What a lovely post! Sometimes it’s really difficult to “be in the moment”. We often think about the past that has already gone or about the future which is not here yet. It’s very important to enjoy every moment, and be grateful for everything we’ve got. We don’t know how long we have got it for!

    • Very true as the song says we are not promised tomorrow, we have to live for today and be grateful for that day and everything in it.

  11. I think that finding at least three things to be grateful for every day will help put your life into perspective. For me I am thankful that even though I have been sick today I was given a great spa experience, have had some great opportunities and good feedback on recent work x

  12. I am grateful for the health of my family and that my father who was recently diagnosed with cancer seems to be responding to the treatments. I am grateful that the problems I have are minor ones.

    • Try to look at some alternative therapies for your fathers cancer – I know several people who have gone into remission using natural remedies. Especially Vitamin C.

    • I agree, life is too short to keep looking at the negative things in life, everything is a positive in some way and being grateful for that knowledge alone can be helpful.

  16. One thing that so very clearly helps develop a grateful attitude is writing thank you notes. I cannot tell you how many weddings I have been to (and given gifts), but have not received a card or postcard, or even a text message! We must develop thankfulness for not only objects, but also people.

    • Totally agree, thank you notes are one thing I always have on hand. Many people seem to have forgotten about sending thank you notes. Very good point.
