As a baby boomer myself I have seen a lot of things happen and a lot of change in my lifetime.   I wanted to have my golden years stress free and relaxing with perhaps some charity work.  This is not what has happened.  Along with many baby boomers, I still have to work to support myself and lifestyle.Change happens all the time

Apart from working there are many things that can be done as a baby boomer, one of which I think is very beneficial to society.

Volunteering time with the young kids.  You can go into local day care and pre K and share stories with the young.  The kids miss out on the story telling due to watching and playing on the internet all the time.

We have a lot to offer society and we can discover a lot from society as well. Learning the new techniques and keeping abreast of the latest apps.  I know my grand kids keep me on my toes with all the technology which can be overwhelming at times.

  1. As a boomer on the tail end, it’s nice to know I’m not the only one in the same boat. I always thought it was the older boomer who have all the money now and that is why no one else has any. If the boomers don’t have it, where has all the money gone?

  2. It’s inspiring to see people of your generation try to balance your lives and change society for the better. We look to you for wisdom so I hope you won’t stop your charity work and volunteering some of your time for young kids (even when youngsters can be pretty hard headed nowadays!)

    • Thank you for your very kind comments. I think working with the younger generations is enlightening and if they are given the respect they deserve it really brings out their intelligence and creativity.

  3. Hi Helen,
I think the baby boomer generation, which i am one of them, are more putting more time in earning money (tend to neglect family and society) ; and are more materialistic due to temptations of having better lifestyle. But honestly i couldn’t find a way to BALANCE them.

    • Balance is so important and you are right many people cannot find this. This is one of the reasons I do what I do so I can help others find balance in their lives.

  4. Hi, Helen,
Thanks for sharing this information on baby boomers. I am a boomer, and moving toward retirement is a real challenge. Our world is very filled with turmoils these days, which makes preparing for the future sound quite a bit unpredictable. I loved reading all your articles. Very good reading.

  5. Hi, Helen. Thank you for your sharing!
I heard of “baby boomer” before when I was studying in high school. Although I’m not one of the baby boomers, one of my professors is. Although he is still doing research now, he spends more and more time to join some volunteering activities. Because he thinks this can help improve society.

  6. Helen,
I’ve heard of the expression “baby boomer” but I really didn’t know exactly what it was.
You’re site really answers this question and it is a great idea for this age group.
It’s a great idea for people who are feeling lost and don’t know what to do as they get older.
    Great site, Alan
