Benefits of using Lavender for stress, anxiety, insomnia and more.
As I have said already in my other posts, coping with stress and anxiety is a mammoth problem world wide. There are almost 70% of Americans on anti-depressants, that is astounding do you not think?
Medications are a big business anywhere in the world. What if you could handle your stress, anxiety, depression and panic all with natural herbs and oils. One of them I would like to highlight today is Lavender. Many of you are probably aware of the properties of lavender already but it is a great flower and oil.
Growing the flower is so easy and to have it in your garden or on your patio has a constant fragrance as well as pleasing to the eye. Also lavender helps ward off mosquitos. Lavender has been used for centuries in potions and drinks the Egyptians used it for bathing, mummification, and perfume. Today it is still used in soaps, perfumes, deodorizers, air sprays and a lot more.
Lavender – How Can It Help YOU?
- Depression
- Tooth Ache
- Mood changer
- Insomnia
- Stress
- Anxiety
Aromatherapy oil is often used in massage to help reduce stress and anxiety. You can also put the oil into the bath which is then absorbed through the skin and can help with the lymphatic system which again aids with stress. Please make sure with children you read all the labels to make sure it is not too strong for them. Also, check with your medical practitioner if you are taking medications.
Burning the oil in a burner in your child’s room will help the child relax and sleep better. If you are worried about naked flames you can get an oil based lavender candle which will burn when you use a plug in to an electric source. This is very effective and safe.
Lavender Tea
Drink the tea before bed to calm yourself and get a better nights sleep. Sleep is one of the most important things you can do for stress, anxiety and panic attacks. Whilst asleep you are healing, resting and restoring your mind and body. The day always looks so much better when you have had a goods night rest.
Growing up my grandmother used little bags of dried lavender flowers in the sock drawer and closets. Keeps the clothes smelling nice but also every time you go into the closet or open the drawer you smell the lavender and unknowingly you are feeling calmer.
I personally have lavender candles which I burn frequently especially when I have guests and the grandkids. Coming home from work and smelling this starts the de-stressing from the days events, winds you down naturally and then when you are ready for bed you sleep easier.
When you feel you are getting overwhelmed or heading for a panic attack, along with the other tools you use you can add lavender to your box. In your car you can get a lavender air freshener, this can help with road rage and the stress of sitting in the traffic. You can carry it in your purse and sniff that throughout the day.
Give me feedback on what you have used lavender for and what results you had. If you have enjoyed this post please share with others.
